Hockey - Samuel Anacoura, Mandy Joubert named best male and female players |22 November 2017

Samuel Anacoura and Mandy Joubert are the best senior male and female hockey players for the year 2017.

Their names were revealed by the chairman of the Seychelles Hockey Federation, George Sicobo during the closing season tournament won by Anse Boileau. The tournament was played at the Astroturf pitch, Roche Caïman.

Francisco Joubert and Kimberly Chang Tak-Hue are the best male and female young players for the year.

Best male senior player Anacoura plays for Anse Boileau, while senior female player Joubert is a member of the Anse Boileau secondary school team and at times plays with the Anse Boileau Forever side.

Young male player Joubert plays for the Plaisance secondary school whereas Chang Tak-Hue plays for the Anse Boileau primary school.

During Sunday’s round-robin league tournament, Anse Boileau won both matches to clinch the title. They beat colleagues Anse Boileau Forever 3-2 in a tight match and went on to beat Plaisance 2-0. Plaisance edged Anse Boileau Forever 2-1 to finish second.

Seychelles Hockey Federation chairman George Sicobo said he is satisfied with the 2017 season even though the only three registered male teams took part in the Sunday league competitions.

He is mostly satisfied that the federation has been able to bring hockey into some primary and secondary schools, adding that this may result in more hockey teams taking part in the men’s and women’s leagues in the future.

The federation organised competitions every fortnight on Sundays for the only three men’s teams and Anse Boileau finished first in the classification followed by Plaisance in second place and Anse Boileau Forever in third position. A few competitions were also organised for primary and secondary schools. With no team registered for the season, there were no competitions for senior women’s teams.
