Julien Andrew Alexis sworn in as director of Surveys |24 January 2018

Julien Andrew Alexis was yesterday sworn in as the director of Surveys before the Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport Charles Bastienne.

The swearing in ceremony was held at the Independence House Annex in the presence of the principal secretary (PS) for Infrastructure Yves Choppy, PS for Housing Denis Barbe and PS for Lands Ravy Valmont, along with other staff of the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport (MHILT).

Mr Alexis has been occupying the post since March last year, but yesterday’s swearing in ceremony was to officially appoint him as the regulation demands.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Alexis said he will be focusing mainly on his post and also the challenges ahead.

“I will be taking charge of the Land Surveyors board and we need to review the Land Survey Act. I will also view projects that surveys was to handle but never did, such as projects of certain lands on Praslin and La Digue. We also have our survey control network which was put in place many years ago and I think it’s time we enter this project to decide what we will do next,” said Mr Alexis.

Mr Alexis was congratulated by those in attendance, who also included Gerard Hoareau, special advisor to Minister Bastienne. Mr Alexis once worked under Mr Hoareau in the Land Survey sector.

As the new director, Mr Alexis will work to ensure that the ministry reaches its target.

He explained that he accepts the challenges that come with the post and has a firm grasp on what will help increase productivity and reduce time consumption to allow for maximum result.

Mr Alexis’s appointment takes effect immediately.
