Judo : Thiery Grimaud Challenge 2018 Eight young stars on Reunion duty |21 April 2018
Eight young judokas from the Etoile Judo Club will leave the country tomorrow to take part in the third Thiery Grimaud Challenge which will take place on Saturday April 28 at the Dojo Régional in Saint-Denis, Reunion.
Not new to the tournament, the Anse Etoile-based club harvested eight medals ‒ three gold, two silver and three bronze ‒ at last year’s competition.
The young athletes will compete in the boys’ and girls’ benjamin (11-12 years old) category.
Gold medallist at last year’s event Ashley Paul (-42kg) and Paris Lozé (-32kg) will once again form part of the team, along with silver medallist Nigel Kilindo (-46kg).
The club’s chairperson Sandra Jeanne, who is also making the trip, said preparation for the competition went well and all the young athletes are eager and ready to compete.
On behalf of the Etoile Judo Club, she thanked their main sponsor ‒ the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) ‒ through the Seychelles Judo Federation, as well as all the other sponsors who made the trip possible
The athletes will also be accompanied by coach Nady Jeanne and official Gilbert Serret.
