Poland plans to open consulate in Seychelles |01 August 2018
Poland plans to open an honorary consulate in Seychelles, the newly accredited Polish ambassador to the country told President Danny Faure yesterday.
Speaking to journalists after having presented his credentials to President Faure, the ambassador said the consulate in Seychelles will be of great benefit to tourists from Poland visiting Seychelles and will also help with trade and commerce between Seychelles and Poland.
“Poland is selling some products to Seychelles, it’s not enough and we are buying some products, mainly fish, from Seychelles, it’s not enough. So my task is to find other possibilities,” Ambassador Bazański said.
He also extended an invitation to President Faure from his Polish counterpart President Andrzej Duda to attend a climate change conference to be held in Poland in December 2018.
Ambassador Bazański said that President Faure has assured him that he will send a Seychelles delegation to the conference.
Other topics discussed between the ambassador and President Faure included preparations for the 100th anniversary this year of Poland regaining its independence, cooperation in trade, commerce and investment between Poland and Seychelles.
Tomorrow, the ambassador will be attending a series of meetings with members of the National Assembly on the subject of trade and commerce.
Diplomatic relations between Seychelles and the Republic of Poland was established in 1979 and Mr Bazański is his country’s third ambassador to be accredited to Seychelles.
Ambassador Bazański, who arrived in the country on Sunday, is based in Nairobi, Kenya. He replaces Ambassador Marek Ziolkowski whose tenure ran from March 2013 to January 2018. The first Polish ambassador to Seychelles was Anna Grupinska who served from 2011-2012.
The secretary of state for foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure, was also present yesterday during the accreditation ceremony.
